| Job Description |
Technical Manager, (Team Leader UNIX Support) RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Lead the Unix platform support services for the Enterprise Support Services team
2) Set, enhance and maintain installation and operating standards for Unix support services.
3) Provide best practice support services for the systems under Enterprise Support Services (ESS) management responsibility, striving to minimise system down time.
4) Ensure the staffs are focused to maintain, tune and patch systems for optimum performance and security.
5) Ensure the staff plan, review and implemented changes in a sound low risk manner, without creating system outages.
6) Provide guidance to staff in their implementation support to approved projects.
7)To ensure key documentation is up to date and readily accessible in our technical library (such as, Configuration and Design Documents, Application Installation Guides, Administrator Support Guides, Operations Staff Procedures, Disaster Recovery Technical Recovery Plans).
8) Ensure 24 x 7 shift support is rostered (with support from your Unix Team Leaders) in an optimised manner.
9) Liaise and assist Service Management and Application Support teams in supporting their service needs.
10) Provide disaster Recovery test invocation guidance and support to the appointed Disaster Recovery test co-ordinator.
11) Provide Technical Project Management guidance to staff who may be appointed as Technical Lead or Technical Project manager to projects.
12) Provide support for costing solutions (hardware, software, and implementation labour) where required.
13) To ensure that all environments supported by the team conform to Audit, GIS and Group IT standards.
14) To work with outsource and other vendors
15) Identify risk, alert management and add the risk(s) to the Group Technology Risk Register.
16) To help ensure that technical solutions proposed (and deployed) satisfy both the immediate and long-term needs of the business, and ensure adherence with the Groups technical and security standards in all aspects of the teams activities.
REQUIREMENTS:
Technical
1) Very strong knowledge and experience of UNIX systems administration (in one or more of AIX, Solaris, Linux technologies).
2) Very strong knowledge and experience of high availability clustering technologies; such as Veritas Cluster Server, IBM HACMP or Sun Cluster.
3) Solid knowledge and experience of systems imaging using products operating system aligned products, such as AIX NIM and Solaris JumpStart.
4) Strong experience in high availability infrastructure solutions architecture and design.
5) In depth knowledge of LPAR, dynamic LPAR, micro-partitioning, VIO server and use of IBM HMC to remotely manage systems.
6) A good technical understanding of LDAP, NIS, DNS and NFS technologies.
7) A sound understanding of RDBMS enterprise backup procedures.
8) Strong experience in enterprise class backup solutions technology, such as MC Legato, Veritas setbackup, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager.
9) Clear understanding of Enterprise security policies.
10) Sound background of midrange system management, monitoring and reporting tools.
11) Sound knowledge of SAN disk and SAN fabric architecture and technology features.
12) Sound knowledge of SAN data mirroring, copy on write and inter-site replication technologies.
13) A fundamentals understanding of all aspects of networking technology (WAN and LAN).
14) Certification in at least one these Unix technology flavours (Solaris, AIX, or Linux).
15) Significant evidence of industry training in Unix computing platforms and related midrange technologies.
