Position: WebSphere Engineer
Job Description:
· Work within a team environment to ensure daily availability of Webshpere V 4,5 with significant business or IT impact.
· Primary focus will include, but is not limited to, WebSphere administration/environment support and maintenance/code deployments, general web middleware software configuration and support, analysis and implementation of new WebSphere releases and application monitoring and reporting.
· Candidate will be managing ongoing security compliance for Websphere Application Server.
· Duties: Strong familiarity with the 4.x, 5.x version of WebSphere Application Server · Proxy, Web, WAS and CTG server conceptual knowledge a must in addition to basic understanding of such protocols as HTTP, HTTPS and TCP/IP ·
· Knowledge of UNIX to check system logs and deployed files ·
· Working knowledge of the Change Management process to build, assemble, validate, get approvals, promote, deploy and validate the code ·
· Analyzes new and existing vendor software; provides installation, maintenance and customization of vendor software as required ·
· Monitors computer program performance to detect errors; applies testing procedures/methodologies (e.g., diagnostic software) and provides interpretation of data.
· Administer the Websphere Application Server (authentication, authorization and application deployment). ·
· Perform problem determination, performance tuning and monitoring production environment.
· Manage ongoing security requirements for Websphere Application Server. ·
· Research and correct security scan report issues related to middleware products. ·
· Provide reports and statistics on the operation of Websphere and systems as required by management. ·
· Utilize, implement where necessary a variety of tools including performance and monitoring tools. ·
· Create and maintain documentation, diagrams to support the management of the Web server and Websphere environment. ·
· Maintain and enhance vendor relationships to assist with product knowledge and support
Skills Required:
· Bachelors Degree in Computer Science
· Requires at least 4 years of WebSphere Application Server (WAS) administrative experience in a high availability web hosting infrastructure and in a large, multi vendor enterprise
· Sound working knowledge of Internet and Intranet required.
· Very knowledgeable of TCP/IP and application protocols.
· Proven communication skills, both oral and written.
· Strong problem ownership and proven track record of excellent customer service.
· Ability to effectively interface with business users and development staff to identify, troubleshoot and resolve system problems.
· Demonstrates excellent organizational, communication skills
· Strong understanding of both Web and Client-Server solutions and J2EE related concepts
· Strong research initiative, a self-starter at locating relevant documentation, support and process assistance.
· A Continuous Improvement mindset with an ability to refine processes to make them more efficient and effective, making more effective use of resources.
· An ability to think 'outside of the box' with a long-term view, when recommending solutions.
· Strong teamwork skills across a diverse work force
· Knowledge of Oracle and SQL Server a plus
· Project management skills a plus
· Willingness and flexibility to work off hours as needed
