The Learning Sciences & Assessment (LSA) Department is an interdisciplinary academic department committed to advancing research, teaching, and professional practice in learning sciences, educational technology, and assessment. The Opportunity

The LSA at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in AI-Enabled Instructional Design and Professional Education.

The Department seeks a candidate whose scholarship and teaching will strengthen its research, graduate teaching, and programme development in an area of strategic growth. We are particularly interested in applicants whose expertise lies at the intersection of instructional design, adult learning, professional education, and the pedagogically sound use of artificial intelligence to support learning design, facilitation, feedback, and learner support.

Candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas will have an added advantage:

• Instructional design for higher education, workplace learning, and continuing education

• Adult learning and professional education

• Online, blended, and technology-mediated learning design

• AI-enabled instructional design, including generative AI and intelligent tools for learning design, facilitation, feedback, and learner support

• Human-centred design of AI-supported learning environments

• Evaluation of learning interventions in organisational, professional, and higher education settings

• Ethical, responsible, and pedagogically sound integration of AI in instructional design and professional learning

• Micro-credentials, workplace assessment, and learning innovation in professional contexts

• Implementation research, design-based implementation research, or improvement science

Requirements

For appointment at Assistant Professor rank:

• A PhD or equivalent qualification in Instructional Design, Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, Adult Learning, Professional Education, or a closely related field.

• A clear research agenda relevant to AI-enabled instructional design, adult learning, and professional education, with expertise in one or more of the areas identified in this advertisement.

• Demonstrated potential to develop and sustain a strong research programme, including the ability to secure and manage competitive research funding.

• An emerging record of high-quality scholarly publications and conference presentations in reputable international outlets.

• Evidence of teaching effectiveness, or strong potential for teaching excellence, in areas such as instructional design, adult learning, online and blended learning, professional education, or AI-enabled learning design.

• Familiarity with educational or professional practice and an interest in research with relevance to higher education, workplace learning, continuing education, or professional learning contexts.

• Potential to build productive collaborations with local and international researchers, educators, industry partners, and other stakeholders.

• Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English.

• Collegiality, professionalism, and willingness to contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration, curriculum development, graduate supervision, and academic service.

Additional requirements for Associate Professor rank:

• Established record of excellence as an Assistant/Associate Professor at reputable universities.

• Outstanding research record in AI-enabled instructional design, adult learning, and professional education.

• Proven track record of securing competitive research grants.

• Extensive publication record in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals.

• International research network with established collaborations.

• Experience working in or with educational institutions, including schools, is preferred.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Establish and sustain a productive research programme, securing competitive research funding.

• Publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals or other reputable scholarly outlets.

• Design, teach, and coordinate courses across graduate and professional education programmes.

• Collaborate with faculty colleagues to design innovative curricula and support programme development in areas aligned with the Department’s strategic priorities.

• Supervise graduate students and contribute to the academic and professional development of learners in higher education and professional contexts.

• Build professional networks with local and international researchers, educators, and industry or professional partners.

• Contribute actively to service at the departmental, institutional, national, and international levels.

• Share expertise across NIE through collaborative platforms and interdisciplinary projects.
