The Natural Sciences and Science Education(NSSE) Department at the NIE in Singapore is seeking an Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in chemistry education to join its NSSE Department. The Natural Sciences and Science Education (NSSE) at the National Institute of Education in Singapore is committed to discovery and innovation in sciences and science education. Comprising faculty from both science content and pedagogical disciplines, we adopt an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research. Our science education researchers focus mainly on maximising the potential of every child through research on students' learning approaches and problem-solving skills, and work with teachers to develop models of creative teaching and new approaches to learning. Faculty members receive research support through internal and external grants, as well as access to world-class research facilities.
Requirements
Successful candidates must have:
· A basic degree in Chemistry and a doctoral degree (PhD) in education (specialising in science/chemistry education)
· Published in top-tier, peer-reviewed international education journals, and be able to teach in English
· Teaching qualifications, and it is desirable to have taught at secondary or primary level for at least 5 years and have leadership experience in school
· Post-doctoral research experience, prior experience in conducting professional development courses for teachers, and conducting research in multilingual and multicultural environments are desirable
· Received competitive research grants to support their scholarly work
· In addition, Associate Professors should have: (a) sustained, independent, and international academic reputation; (b) published in high-impact venues; (c) secured major research grants; and (d) received teaching awards.
Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to:
· Design, teach and grade a range of pre-service and in-service courses in Chemistry Education, and graduate-level courses in Science Education.
· Supervise undergraduate and pre-service students in teaching practicum attachments and projects
· Supervise Master’s and Doctoral students and perform examination duties for graduate students’ theses/dissertation, seminar, and oral examinations
· Serve on committees in the Department, NIE and NTU and offer consultancy and professional services to schools, the Ministry of Education and other public education-related organisations on a request basis
· Develop research programmes aligned to their areas of specialisation and publish in top-tier, peer-reviewed international education journals
· In addition, Associate Professors will be expected to lead in key areas of research within the department, mentor junior faculty members, supervise graduate students and serve in programme leadership.
