Fabrica AI invented an automatic tile grouting robot that boosts productivity by up to 5x and are piloting it on construction sites in Singapore managed by Woh Hup, BHCC, Gin Chia, Soilbuild, Chan Rong Fen, and Dragages. Tile grouting is the process of filling up the gaps between tiles after the tiles have been laid. We invented a patented robot that is able to automatically grout and clean tile gaps with only a press of a button.

Your internship would revolve around bringing our robot to market. You may be remunerated with a combination of salary and share options. It is possible to combine this with our technical internships for a more “hybrid” role. This internship requires a reasonable amount of technical understanding/engineering interest. 

Especially if you are part-time, you are not expected to handle all (or even most) of the items below. However, a reasonable subset of what is listed below is required, and any combination of what’s listed below based on your interest and strengths can be discussed. 

  1. Assisting with the recruitment process, including posting job openings, reviewing resumes, and conducting initial candidate screenings.
  2. Coordinating and scheduling interviews with job applicants and hiring managers.
  3. Assisting in onboarding new employees, including paperwork and orientation.
  4. Maintaining and updating employee records and databases.
  5. Assisting with HR-related communications, such as preparing HR documents and announcements.
  6. Supporting HR team with various administrative tasks.
  7. Assisting in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
  8. Conducting research on HR trends and best practices.
  9. Assisting in organizing HR-related training and development programs.
  10. Participating in special HR projects and initiatives as assigned.
  11. Scheduling and joining meetings with prospective clients, investors, and partners
  12. Market research for expansion overseas
  13. Accounting and purchasing
  14. Scouting for new opportunities, writing proposals for them, and pushing fabrica out there
  15. Visiting industry trial sites, giving appropriate feedback to product development team 
  16. Speaking to industry players, ground workers, understanding the process of tile grouting to help us shape our solution, especially from an operational point of view
  17. Connecting manufacturers and our product team to build and iterate on our prototype, creating new avenues for manufacturing at scale, manufacturing for reliability
  18. Website and other marketing/public relations management
  19. Any other operational duties 

A great candidate would possess the following:

  • Value the direct impact on the product and proximity to clients at a startup and the growth potential of a startup
  • Willing to work without a very well defined job scope and willing to adapt to changes week on week
  • Ability to think of metrics to measure progress and deciding based on back of the envelope calculations
  • Keenness to do more than is expected, impact driven

Our development process is very iterative and agile. Thus, there would not be a concrete plan more than 2 weeks ahead and your role/tasks is/are likely to evolve over time. Company Details

Fabrica Robotics Pte Ltd invented an autonomous tile grouting robot that operates with a single press of a button powered by Computer Vision and Robot Operating System (ROS). The robot is able to grout and clean excess grout off floor tiles, navigating a given area to automate the tile grouting process. Human intervention is only needed to move the robot from room to room, reload grout, and change water, and the robot does not need to be supervised while in operation. Real-time mapping of the rooms (including irregularly shaped corridors and the main living area) and grout an entire apartment with no need to upload any floor plan beforehand. No BIM or any prior set-up is required. The robot is small (under 60cm on each side),  reasonably lightweight (roughly 60kg), and can be easily operated by one person and able to navigate tight spaces such as corridors in smaller homes.  

Besides, using the robot means that workers do not need to bend down for grouting which may hurt their knees and back over time. Our robot also ensures high quality of grouting as it is consistently able to compress grout within gaps and not just produce a nice surface finish. This will prevent grout from falling out over time leaving behind hollow gaps in tile joints where dirt can accumulate.

We have started selling in Singapore and Australia, started trials in the US, and are looking for distributors in the UK as well. We are co-founded by Cambridge University Graduates and are funded by a Cambridge University professor, amongst various other venture capitals and construction companies.
