Our client is a multi-strategy investment firm with offices in London and Singapore. The co is a boutique office in Singapore with a global MNC culture. It is based in town, and the company has a 1-day WFH arrangement.

About the Role:

  • It is seeking a high-calibre, hands-on Finance Director/Financial Controller to lead the full finance function of the firm. The role combines end-to-end ownership of financial operations with responsibility for portfolio valuation governance, financial insight, audit and tax compliance, and board-level financial reporting. It will cover a multi-jurisdictional structure and include family office-focused subsidiaries and operations.
  • Reporting to the COO, you will ensure that all financial information across both the investment portfolio and the firm’s cost base is accurate, consistent, and with quality insight to enable decision-making. This role will also interact with the London-based team. The role plays a critical part in enabling effective financial governance and supporting capital allocation decisions at Board level.

Role and Responsibilities:

1. Ownership of financial integrity across the firm and its subsidiaries, including family office operations

Finance Operations & Accounting

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day finance function and core accounting processes, including accounts payable, general ledger, corporate card and expenses.
  • Establish and maintain strong controls and process discipline, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded, including a full process review at the outset.
  • Build on the current process foundations and further embed best in class operating procedures to ensure business continuity and risk management.
  • Guide relevant operating subsidiaries' finance functions to ensure compatibility and consistency with the firm's standards and any consolidation requirements.
  • Ensure all standard operating procedures are appropriately documented.
  • Develop relationships with transactional banking partners and outsourced Treasury.

Management Accounts & Financial Reporting

  • Own the preparation and delivery of monthly management accounts, and quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full balance sheet integrity.
  • Monitor budget vs actual performance and ensure strong financial discipline across all operating costs and interrogate relevant cost variances.

Cash Visibility & Control

  • Maintain full visibility of cash across all entities and structures working with partners in the Treasury function (outsourced).
  • Monitor daily cash positions and short-term liquidity and enforce strong control over payment processes and timing of invoices.
  • Ensure completion of regular cash reconciliations and timely resolution of reconciling items.
  • Ensure early escalation of liquidity risks and alignment between reported and available cash.

Portfolio Valuation (Fair Value Reporting)

  • Receive portfolio valuations from the investment team and act as an independent reviewer and challenger, escalating to the COO where required (hands-on exp doing valuation is not required. This is a valuation reviewer function)
  • Assess movements in assumptions and ensure alignment with performance and market conditions.
  • Own the fair value used in financial reporting and ensure full audit defensibility.

Tax and structuring

  • Lead the preparation and review of tax returns across the group and ensure timely filing to meet regulatory deadlines.
  • Act as central coordination point for tax and structuring advice, engaging and managing external advisers together with the investment team.
  • Maintain sufficient proximity to the technical landscape, with the assistance of external advisers, to identify risk areas and present recommendations to the COO.

Audit, Compliance & Controls

  • Lead external audit processes, maintain a robust internal control framework, and ensure compliance with all applicable accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with external advisers and auditors independently.
  • Monitor emerging trends in the regulatory environment, with the assistance of external advisers, and potential financial impacts across the firm.

2. Financial Insight (Interpretation & Analysis)

Portfolio Performance Insight

  • Monitor portfolio performance against valuation assumptions, identifying key drivers of value creation and risks.
  • Provide clear insight into the sustainability of valuations.

Cash & Liquidity Insight

  • Provide clear visibility on liquidity position, cash runway, and funding risks.
  • Identify timing mismatches and constraints on capital availability.

Cost Base Analysis

  • Analyse cost trends and efficiency.
  • Identify areas of cost inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.

Integrated Financial View

  • Combine portfolio performance, cost base, and cash position to provide a complete financial picture of the firm’s performance and trajectory.

3. Planning, Decision Support & Board Enablement

Planning & Forecasting

  • Lead group-level budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Provide forward-looking visibility on cost, cash, and liquidity.

Decision Support

  • Provide structured financial analysis to support discussions on portfolio performance and capital efficiency.
  • Contextualise outcomes across investments without owning deal modelling.

Board Reporting

  • Prepare financial components of board materials, ensuring clarity, consistency, and defensibility.
  • Present written information in a concise and decision-useful manner.
  • Act as a key finance partner to the COO, providing reliable data, clear insight, and structured financial narratives to support decision-making and board discussions.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; professional accounting qualification (e.g., CA, CPA, ACCA) with at least 10 years of relevant experience
  • Prior Big 4 audit firm experience and accounting experience gained with a private equity/VC/ family office is required
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting, tax, and KYC / regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in hands-on and ground-up day-to-day finance function responsibilities, covering ERP(SAP), strong accounting processes, management reporting/budgeting, banking platforms and corporate card providers etc.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and cross-jurisdictional structures.
  • Ability to manage and develop a small team and external providers
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Teams, Sharepoint, and other relevant software
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience working with stakeholders of diverse nationalities.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proactive, adaptable, and positive attitude with the ability to manage changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Fast learner with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to new challenges and environments. Has a strong sense of accountability.

  • Experience in a family office environment
  •  Experience with unlisted investments e.g. private equity or venture capital
