ROLE OVERVIEW 

VionData Partners is seeking an experienced Java Engineer to join the software engineering team of a banking client in Singapore. The engineer will build and deliver robust, scalable Java systems, solve complex legacy and production issues, and translate business and system requirements into scalable, stable and fit-for-purpose technical solutions. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Functional / Technical 

• Develop and deliver solutions with Java, EJB, Spring Boot, MySQL, Oracle and IBM MQ. 

• Understand business and system requirements and translate them into scalable, stable and fit-for-purpose technical solutions. 

• Analyse, design, code and implement complex, custom-built applications. 

• Tackle complex legacy defects that are difficult to analyse and resolve. 

• Investigate and resolve production issues to maintain a stable production environment, remaining calm and effective in a crisis. 

• Ensure adherence to bank standards, including code, security and performance. 

• Work collaboratively with the team in Agile methodologies such as Scrum and/or Extreme Programming. 

• Communicate highly technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences. 

• Build a reputation for technical strength by helping solve problems others struggle with. 

Regulatory Responsibilities & Risk Management 

• Demonstrate appropriate values and behaviours, including honesty and integrity, due care and diligence, fair dealing, management of conflicts of interest, competence and continuous development, adequate risk management, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. 

• Take responsibility for identifying and closely managing risks and issues, and drive stakeholders to deliver on time and to the required quality standards. 

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS 

Professional 

• Well organised, with the ability to prioritise and carry out multiple tasks. 

• Able to influence and drive projects to meet key milestones and overcome challenges. 

• Able to translate functional requirements into efficient, fit-for-purpose technical solutions. 

• Preferably, experience in the finance / banking or public sector domain. 

Technical - Must Have 

• Core Java and JUnit. 

• Spring Boot and Spring core concepts. 

• Strong computer science knowledge (algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design). 

• TDD; able to write acceptance tests. 

• Basic Linux shell scripting commands. 

• Java messaging concepts (JMS, MQ). 

• Relational database concepts and SQL (joins, indexes, triggers etc.), including SQL query optimisation. 

• Web services: REST and SOAP. 

• Basic DevOps and AWS cloud experience (CI/CD, containerisation, common AWS services). 

• Familiarity with IntelliJ, Git and SonarQube / SonarLint. 

Technical - Desirable 

• JBoss (or any other application server) knowledge. 

• Java Server Faces, JPA and EJB knowledge. 

• Ability to write and understand complex SQL queries. 

• Kafka. 

• React JS.

• Good communication skills. 

• Good work ethic and punctuality. 

• Good problem-solving abilities. 

• Good team player.
