The Mathematics and Mathematics Education (MME) Department at the NIE is part of the Singapore mathematics education ecology that has produced a world-class system for students of varied abilities. Our vision is to be a world-class symbiosis of mathematics educators and mathematicians. A mathematician educator is a teacher of mathematics who bases his/her pedagogy on a strong foundation of mathematics disciplinarity, learning theories and mathematics education research findings. Our mission is to nurture mathematician educators for Singapore and the world through research and exemplary teaching. MME staff engage in research in mathematics education and mathematics to meet the needs of teachers within a changing environment, upholding the mathematical rigour essential to a productive STEM education. We constantly seek innovative and research informed ways of delivering mathematics content and pedagogy courses in an effort to develop best practices as we collaborate with educators in the schools.

We invite qualified applicants to apply for the Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer position in the area of Mathematics Education.

Requirements  

The successful candidate should satisfy the following criteria:

• Have a PhD in Mathematics Education, with a particular focus on mathematics education which is relevant to Singapore;

• Have a strong record of classroom teaching, preferably with more than 10 years of experience teaching Mathematics both in a primary/elementary and middle/secondary school;

• Have at least five years of middle management experience, preferably as a Head of Department (Mathematics) or equivalent; and

• Have some experience in teacher training (e.g., providing teacher professional development training as a teacher educator, lead teacher or master teacher in the Singapore education system).

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• contribute to teaching and course development at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels for mathematics education;

• supervise graduate and undergraduate students in mathematics education research and school practicum;

• teach mathematics education courses from pre-service to postgraduate level;

• conduct research relating to mathematics education;

• liaise with the Singapore MOE on curriculum and mathematics teacher education matters;

• provide consultancy on mathematics education assessment for MOE and other IHL.
