The Senior Lecturer, Life Skills is a practice-led educator who brings strong professional expertise in communications, storytelling, personal branding and personal development to TP’s Life Skills and TP Fundamentals curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

1. Practice-Led Life Skills & Communications Expertise

  • Brings strong professional expertise in communications, storytelling, personal branding and life skills, including areas such as interpersonal communication, presentation skills, workplace communication, confidence-building, self-awareness, resilience and professional presence.
  • Translates real-world communications and life skills experience into applied learning activities that are relevant to students’ academic journeys, future careers and personal development.
  • Champions the importance of human-centred capabilities such as empathy, adaptability, curiosity, confidence, resilience and self-leadership as essential complements to students’ technical and disciplinary training.

2. Curriculum Contribution, Design & Applied Learning

  • Contributes to the design, review and enhancement of Life Skills and TP Fundamentals subjects in collaboration with curriculum leads, subject teams and experienced educators.
  • Designs or co-designs applied learning activities such as presentations, storytelling exercises, personal branding activities, role plays, facilitated discussions, reflective tasks, workplace scenarios, group projects and personal development activities.
  • Supports the development of authentic assessments that evaluate communication effectiveness, clarity of thought, self-reflection, collaboration, professional behaviour and the application of Life Skills in real-world contexts.

3. Teaching, Facilitation & Pedagogical Growth

  • Delivers engaging and student-centred lessons that encourage students to participate actively, express themselves clearly, listen respectfully, reflect deeply and build confidence over time.
  • Facilitates classroom conversations on communication, personal branding, storytelling, personal development, wellbeing, career readiness, social awareness and contemporary issues with sensitivity and confidence.
  • Works with experienced educators, curriculum specialists and teaching teams to strengthen pedagogical practice, assessment literacy and facilitation skills, while progressively developing as an educator through professional development and reflective practice.

4. Student Development, Confidence-Building & Inclusive Engagement

  • Supports students in developing the confidence, mindset and communication skills needed to navigate academic, workplace and social situations.
  • Guides students in areas such as oral communication, presentation delivery, storytelling, personal branding, interpersonal skills, professional etiquette, teamwork, self-reflection and personal effectiveness.
  • Creates safe and inclusive learning environments where students are encouraged to ask questions, explore different perspectives, learn from mistakes and grow in self-awareness, resilience and adaptability.

5. Collaboration, Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Works closely with diploma schools, academic teams and internal stakeholders to contextualise Life Skills learning for students from different disciplines.
  • Builds and sustains relationships with industry, community and organisational partners to bring relevant workplace, communications and societal perspectives into Life Skills education.
  • Contributes to continuing education and training initiatives, customised workshops or adult-learning programmes in areas such as communication, storytelling, personal branding, customer service, workplace communication, presentation skills and personal effectiveness.

6. Centre, School & Institutional Contribution

  • Contributes to Centre-wide, School-wide or Polytechnic-wide initiatives that support holistic student development, future-ready learning and the broader goals of the Centre for Life Skills.
  • Participates in curriculum projects, student development initiatives, events, committees or workgroups related to Life Skills, TP Fundamentals, communications, employability, wellbeing or personal development.
  • Progressively assumes greater academic and curriculum leadership responsibilities as teaching practice, assessment knowledge and institutional familiarity deepen, while bringing professional strengths in communications, stakeholder engagement and facilitation to TP initiatives.
