This is a 2-year position as a Senior Lecturer, Inclusive Education & Learning Support in the School of Humanities & Interdisciplinary Studies.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate educator with deep expertise in special educational needs (SEN), inclusive education and learning support to lead the School's efforts in developing inclusive teaching and assessment practices. The role requires someone who can work confidently across a broad spectrum of learning disabilities and neurodevelopmental conditions, and who can guide academic staff in making evidence-based accommodations within the Polytechnic's academic and assessment frameworks.

In this role, you will serve as the School's key specialist resource for inclusive education, partnering with lecturers, course teams, student support professionals and academic leaders to support complex student cases, build staff capability and establish effective practices that balance student support with academic standards.

In addition to leading the School's inclusive education initiatives, you will contribute to teaching and curriculum development within the Diploma in Psychology & Community Development (PCD), as well as support the growth of Continuing Education and Training (CET) offerings in areas related to disability inclusion, special educational needs and learning support. This is a unique opportunity to shape inclusive educational practices at scale while making a meaningful impact on student success across the Polytechnic.

[What you will be working on]

  • Review and provide recommendations on complex student cases involving a wide range of learning disabilities, neurodevelopmental conditions and learning differences.

  • Partner lecturers and course teams to implement reasonable accommodations that support student success without compromising learning outcomes or assessment integrity.

  • Develop practical resources, guidelines and frameworks to strengthen inclusive teaching and assessment practices across the School.

  • Support the School's efforts to build a more inclusive learning environment through evidence-based and sustainable practices.

Capability Development and Staff Training

  • Design and deliver professional development programmes for academic staff on inclusive education, universal design for learning, differentiated instruction and assessment accommodations.

  • Build staff confidence and capability in supporting students with diverse learning needs across classroom, project-based and assessment settings.

  • Curate and share emerging practices, research and evidence-based approaches in inclusive education and learning support.

  • Lead school-wide initiatives and projects relating to learner diversity, accessibility and inclusion.

Student Support and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with student support professionals, academic leaders and relevant stakeholders to coordinate support strategies for students with learning needs.

  • Provide consultation and case management support for students requiring significant accommodations or intervention.

  • Partner internal and external stakeholders to strengthen support systems and referral pathways for students requiring specialised assistance.

Teaching and Academic Contributions

  • Undertake curriculum development, teaching and student supervision duties within the Diploma in Psychology & Community Development (PCD).

  • Deliver modules in areas related to psychology, disability inclusion, special educational needs, community development, helping professions and related disciplines, depending on expertise and School needs.

  • Design, develop and facilitate Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes for adult learners and industry professionals in areas relating to disability inclusion, supporting individuals with special educational needs, inclusive practices and related topics.

  • Contribute to the development of new PET and CET offerings that strengthen professional capabilities in inclusive education, disability support and community inclusion.

  • Participate in School initiatives, projects and committees that support educational excellence and student success.

[What we are looking for]

  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Educational Psychology, Learning Support or a related discipline. Postgraduate qualifications will be an advantage.

  • Significant professional experience supporting individuals with a broad spectrum of learning disabilities, neurodevelopmental conditions and learning differences, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, dyslexia and less commonly encountered learning disabilities.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching in a mainstream educational institution, with a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges of inclusive classroom practice.

  • Strong understanding of assessment accommodations and the ability to recommend and implement support measures that maintain academic standards and assessment integrity.

  • Experience advising, coaching or training educators in inclusive education, learning support or related areas.

  • Strong facilitation, consultation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with academic staff, student support professionals and leadership teams.

  • Experience designing and delivering adult learning, professional development or CET programmes will be an advantage.

  • Knowledge of universal design for learning, differentiated instruction, accessibility and evidence-based intervention strategies.

  • A collaborative, empathetic and solutions-oriented mindset, coupled with sound professional judgement when managing complex cases involving students with diverse learning needs.

Successful candidates should possess both deep expertise in inclusive education and the ability to operate effectively within a mainstream educational environment, supporting staff and students while balancing inclusion, academic standards and institutional requirements
