We are looking for an experienced SEO & GEO Lead to lead our SEO/GEO team, strengthen our established SEO practice, and contribute to the continued development of our GEO and AI Search capabilities.

Job Summary

As the SEO & GEO Lead, you will own the overall quality, strategic direction and development of Verz’s SEO/GEO practice.

You will lead and develop the SEO/GEO team, oversee strategies across a diverse client portfolio, support complex and underperforming campaigns, work closely with Digital Marketing Account Managers, and contribute to client retention, account growth and new business opportunities.

You will also play an important role in evolving our GEO and AI Search capabilities as search behaviour and discovery continue to change.

This is a leadership role requiring strong strategic and technical SEO expertise, people leadership, client-facing ability, analytical thinking and commercial judgement. Hands-on GEO/AEO experience is preferred, but extensive years of formal GEO experience are not required.

Key Responsibilities

SEO & GEO Strategy

• Lead and review SEO/GEO strategies across multiple clients, industries and website types.
• Provide senior guidance across technical SEO, on-page optimisation, content strategy, search intent, internal linking, authority building and complex website issues.
• Diagnose underperforming campaigns and guide clear optimisation and recovery strategies.
• Guide GEO/AEO strategies covering prompt research, AI visibility, citation/source analysis, content optimisation, entities, topical authority and third-party signals.
• Set strategic priorities and quality standards across the SEO/GEO client portfolio.
• Evaluate emerging search technologies, AI platforms and tools, and translate relevant developments into practical strategies for the team and clients.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, mentor and develop SEO/GEO Specialists, Coordinators and junior team members.
• Set clear priorities, responsibilities, accountability and quality expectations.
• Review strategies, audits and recommendations while coaching team members towards stronger solutions rather than simply taking over execution.
• Identify capability and knowledge gaps and develop relevant training, documentation and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, performance development and resource planning.
• Build scalable team capabilities and reduce dependency on individual team members.

Client & Campaign Leadership

• Work closely with Digital Marketing Account Managers to ensure SEO/GEO strategies support clients’ broader business and marketing objectives.
• Act as the senior SEO/GEO subject-matter expert for strategic accounts, escalations and complex campaign challenges.
• Participate in client reviews and strategic discussions where senior SEO/GEO expertise is required.
• Monitor overall portfolio performance and proactively identify risks, opportunities and areas requiring intervention.
• Ensure campaign reporting provides meaningful insights, business context and clear next steps.
• Drive strong client satisfaction, retention and renewals by working with Account Managers to identify performance risks and long-term account growth opportunities.

Business, Service Development & Innovation

• Support strategic SEO/GEO pitches, audits and proposals for prospective clients.
• Identify opportunities to grow the SEO/GEO portfolio through renewals, GEO adoption, account expansion and relevant cross-service opportunities.
• Develop and improve SEO/GEO methodologies, service packages, SOPs, workflows and quality standards.
• Evaluate and test new SEO, GEO, AI visibility, analytics and automation tools to improve campaign performance and team efficiency.
• Stay updated on search engine and AI developments, and translate relevant changes into practical strategies, training and processes.
• Drive continuous improvement of Verz’s own SEO/GEO visibility, authority and qualified inbound lead generation.

• Build a high-performing SEO/GEO team with strong campaign quality, accountability, technical capability and strategic thinking.
• Proactively improve underperforming campaigns and overall portfolio health.
• Strengthen Verz’s own SEO and GEO performance, contributing to greater market authority, AI/search visibility and qualified inbound leads.
• Continuously improve our SEO/GEO methodologies, tools, processes and service capabilities as search and AI platforms evolve.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on SEO experience, preferably across multiple clients, industries or complex websites.
• Strong strategic and technical SEO expertise across crawlability, indexation, site architecture, redirects, structured data, Core Web Vitals, migrations, on-page SEO, content strategy and authority building.
• Proven experience leading, mentoring or managing an SEO/search team.
• Hands-on exposure to GEO, AEO, AI Search Optimisation or AI visibility initiatives is preferred.
• Practical understanding of prompt strategy, AI visibility, citation/source analysis, AI-oriented content optimisation and relevant monitoring tools is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of GA4, Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, SEMrush, Ahrefs, or equivalent platforms.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to connect SEO/GEO performance metrics to broader client business and marketing objectives.
• Ability to diagnose performance issues, challenge existing strategies and recommend clear, practical solutions.
• Strong client-facing, presentation, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Agency or multi-client experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting pitches, proposals and strategic client discussions is advantageous.
• Proactive, data-driven, commercially aware and comfortable adapting as search and AI platforms evolve.
• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications or a related discipline is preferred.
